Accessibility Keys

This website uses the following access keys in accordance with the UK Government Standard:
  • s - skip navigation.
  • 1 - Home page.
  • 8 - Web Policy page.
  • 9 - Contact Us page.
  • 0 - Accessibility page (this page).

How to use Access Keys

Microsoft Windows based PC

  • Internet Explorer 5+. Hold down the 'ALT' key and press the corresponding access key on your keyboard, release both keys and press 'ENTER' or 'RETURN'.
  • Firefox 2+. Hold down the 'SHIFT' + 'ALT' key and press the number of the corresponding access key on your keyboard.
  • Opera 9+. Hold down the 'SHIFT' key and press 'ESCAPE', release both keys, then press the corresponding access key on your keyboard.

Apple Mac

  • Safari. Hold down the 'CTRL' key and press the corresponding access key on your keyboard.
  • Internet Explorer 5+. Hold down the 'CTRL' key and press the corresponding access key on your keyboard.
  • Firefox 3+. Hold down the 'CTRL' key and press the corresponding access key on your keyboard.
  • Opera 9+. Hold down the 'SHIFT' key and press 'ESCAPE', release both keys, then press the corresponding access key on your keyboard.

Text Size and Zoom Control

To enlarge or reduce displayed text on a Microsoft Windows based PC use the following depending on which browser you are using.

Firefox 2/3

To zoom in/out using the keyboard:

  • 'CTRL' and '+' to increase the text size.
  • 'CTRL' and '-' to decrease the text size.
  • 'CTRL' and '0' (zero) returns you to the default 'normal' zoom size.

or with a wheel mouse:

  • 'CTRL' and click the wheel up/down to zoom in/out.

Safari

To zoom in/out using the keyboard:

  • 'CTRL' and '+' to increase the text size.
  • 'CTRL' and '-' to decrease the text size.
  • 'CTRL' and '0' (zero) returns you to the default 'normal' zoom size.

or with a wheel mouse:

  • 'CTRL' and click the wheel up/down to zoom in/out.

Internet Explorer 7/8

IE supports two approaches to web page text sizing; zoom which is common to other browsers and text size change.

To zoom in/out using the keyboard:

  • 'CTRL' + '+' to increase the zoom.
  • 'CTRL' + '-' to decrease the zoom.
  • 'CTRL' and '0' (zero) returns you to the default 'normal' zoom size.

or with a wheel mouse:

  • 'CTRL' and click the wheel up/down to zoom in/out.

To change text size using the keyboard:

  • Hold down the 'ALT' and 'v' keys.
  • Then press the 'x' key followed by selecting the desired text size using one of 'a' 's' 'm' 'l' 'g'.

or with the mouse:

  • Open the 'View' menu.
  • Select the 'Text Size'.
  • Select the desired text size (smallest to largest) or reset to medium.

Opera 8/9

Opera supports two approaches to web page text sizing; zoom which is common to other browsers and text size change.

To zoom in/out using the keyboard:

  • '+' to increase the zoom.
  • '-' to decrease the zoom.
  • 'CTRL' and '0' (zero) returns you to the default 'normal' zoom size.

or with a wheel mouse:

  • 'CTRL' and click the wheel up/down to zoom in/out.

To change text size using the keyboard:

  • Hold down the 'ALT' and 'v' key.
  • Then press the 'z' key followed by selecting the desired text size using the cursor up/down key.
  • Press the 'RETURN' or 'ENTER' key to select.

or with a wheel mouse:

  • 'CTRL' and click the wheel up/down to zoom in/out.

Colour Scheme

This website supports site-wide colour scheme changing.

Three settings are available and can be accessed via the 3 buttons marked 'C' next to the text 'Select Colour' at the top left hand side of the page under the logo.

  • Default. White background.
  • Dyslexia. Cream background.
  • HiViz. Black background with predominately yellow text.
